Following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Five Star Electric
completed the electrical work for the restoration of the 1 and 9 subway
tunnel and stations. This was the first infrastructural project following
the attack at the World Trade Center. The work included rebuilding the
subway tunnel, tracks and station platforms. The Joint Venture team of
AJ Pegno Construction Corp. and Tully Construction Co., the project’s
prime contractor with New York City Transit, completed this intense project
in eight months. Traditionally a project of this magnitude would take
approximately 24 months to complete. However as a result of the importance
of getting the New York City subway system up and running, this project
became priority. Intensive daily meetings occurred each morning and a
proactive approach by all team members facilitated this project’s
fast track completion. The station was reopened before the first anniversary
of 9/11 in 2002.
